Malstrom

About the Release

Released in 2014, Malstrom is Karg’s fourth album and a focused continuation of the expansive language heard on Apathie. Neurasthenie and the title track establish a pull built from quiet guitar lines, accumulating repetition and eruptive black-metal passages; the closing Apnoe spends more than thirteen minutes on one final, slow arc of tension. The six tracks rely on strong dynamic contrast. Katharsis and Melancholia A.D. act as shorter transitions, while Dekarnation and Apnoe carry the melancholic core into longer developments. Dialect and regional inflection become part of the music’s identity rather than a decorative detail. The documented black gatefold LP was limited to 500 copies. Its production and distribution formed a historical cooperation between Obscure Abhorrence Productions, Self Mutilation Services and Talheim Records. The Talheim Store continues to provide the physical catalogue reference for this edition.
