Todbringer

About the Release

Todbringer was released in 2016 as Ellende’s second full-length album. Seven principal pieces and the CD’s acoustic bonus version of Wind extend the project’s central tension: harsh black metal, piano, acoustic instruments and long melodic movements are not displayed as opposites but allowed to flow into one another. Am Sterbebett der Zeit opens the album instrumentally before Ballade auf den Tod and Verehrung develop its themes of transience, loss and human self-destruction. At roughly fifteen minutes, Scherben forms the extended centre. Am Ende stirbst du allein closes the main cycle, while the acoustic Wind reaches back to the debut. Music and visual design were conceived as one work. L.G. created the artwork for an eighteen-panel circular digipak, released by Talheim Records under catalogue number TR035CD in an edition of 1,000 copies. This page documents that original version and clearly separates it from later reinterpretations of the material.
