Romantik Suicide

About the Release

Romantik Suicide is the debut album by Kanashimi, the Japanese project from Shizuoka. Originally released in 2009, its six tracks join the slow weight of funeral doom with the raw, inward expression of depressive black metal. The two title pieces frame a sequence of just under thirty minutes and give the album a deliberately circular shape. Between Romantik Suicide and Romantik Suicide: Part II are Kanashimi no Rensa, Eien ni..., the brief interlude For a Suicide and the eight-minute Zetsubou no Namida. Long arcs of tension, recurring piano and guitar motifs and heavily slowed passages carry the melancholy without reducing the record to one narrow form of doom or black metal. Talheim Records issued the album digitally in 2019 and documents the later gatefold editions on 180 g vinyl. Black and Bloody Red were each limited to 100 copies; Transparent Orange appeared as another physical variant and in a store bundle. This page connects the album with Kanashimi’s artist profile, the complete tracklist and the store editions that remain available.
